“Hi! I am Juliana, and I am a photoholic!”
This is how I have been introducing myself since I became feverish with photography. I have always taken photos, but one time, after challenging myself to capture completely different perspectives of the same views down a path that I had taken many times, I experienced enormous bliss and peace from focusing out and appreciating how amazing existence is.
This epiphany was just what I needed, as I was feeling blue from all the news on wars, violence, and increased levels of anxiety and depression globally, especially post-COVID-19 pandemic.
With this realization, I decided to somehow give back by contributing my photos, as they might have greater value than just sitting on my cloud drive. I wanted to do something advocating non-violence and encouraging a rediscovery of meaningful connections—with oneself, others, the community, and the Earth. I believe that engaging in various hobbies and art forms can be a powerful way for us to express and deflate any emotional buildup, develop the courage to be ourselves, and eventually find both inner and outer peace as we become aligned inside out.
Since this declaration, I have started sharing my photos, receiving endorsements from winning small photo missions, and offering others to make use of them. Then the opportunity for me to be impactful came when I was given an empty wall to curate my first photo exhibition.
This is how Photo4Peace, a project of JuLam ArtFoto, under my coaching company BeAM One, is formed.
Seizing this opportunity, I would not miss the chance to raise funds for organizations that share similar values. Just as I was about to conduct my research, I received a referral to JUST FEEL, an NGO dedicated to transforming the communication culture in schools and families, empowering educators and parents to nurture the emotional well-being of children. My friend, who made this introduction, really knew me and my mission well.
What’s meant to be will always find its way. It is so true and well proven once again. Thank you for learning about my mission. Now, may I invite you to join me on this heartfelt journey towards reconnection and compassion. Together, let's make a difference.
